Trish Keenan of Broadcast passes away, tribute tonight at Kings
Trish Keenan, vocalist for British electro-pop group Broadcast, passed away this morning at the age of 42 after spending two weeks in ICU battling H1N1-related pneumonia.
"This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly," reads a statement from Warp Records. "A unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace."
The band spent the month of December touring Australia, where Keenan reportedly contracted a strain of the H1N1 flu.
Broadcast was formed in 1995, and though the band's output had slowed in recent years they had just released a new album in 2009, Broadcast and the Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age.
Though considered to be a somewhat obscure act, the band gained a cult following of devoted fans worldwide, including local DJ Jake Rudh, who counts Broadcast as "one of my favorite bands/artists of all time."
Tonight, Rudh will pay tribute to Broadcast with a DJ set tonight. "My wife and I are massive fans and even flew to London to see them this past Spring," Jake writes. "I will be hosting a tribute to them tonight at Kings Wine Bar from 10pm - 12am. The music of Broadcast, their inspirations and artists they inspired will be played."
