The White Stripes announce breakup after 13 years as a band
Twitter is abuzz this morning with the breaking news that the White Stripes, one of the most influential lo-fi rock duos of the early 2000s, have officially called it quits after a few years of hiatus.
The White Stripes' final album, Icky Thump, was released in 2007, and Jack White has since shifted his focus to other projects like the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather. Their final public performance together was a one-off appearance on the final episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien in 2009.
"The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live," the band posted on their website.
