The Decemberists' Colin Meloy announces solo tour, playing Minneapolis in November

After the Decemberists delighted Minnesota music fans with an enthralling sold-out show at the State Theatre in support of The King Is Dead in 2011, as well as two area Hazards of Love shows in quick succession in '09, it has become quite clear that Colin Meloy and his cohorts have developed a fondness for Minneapolis.
That point was proven even further today when Meloy announced a short solo U.S. tour, which will bring him to the Woman's Club this fall.
Colin Meloy is set to play the Assembly Hall at the Woman's Club on Wednesday, November 13. The Minneapolis show is the final announced date on Meloy's first solo tour in five years, and is in support of another Colin Meloy Sings... cover EP, with the featured cover artist unannounced at this point.
In the past, Meloy has done wonderful cover EPs featuring songs by Morrissey, Shirley Collins, and Sam Cooke, with Colin lovingly paying tribute to singers and songwriters who have influenced him over the years.
Tickets for the Woman's Club show go on-sale to the general public on Friday at noon, with a limited supply of pre-sale tickets available at ColinMeloy.com beginning at 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday, July 31.
According to the Decemberists' press release:
"No doubt he'll be bringing in tow a slew of songs, new and old, familiar and not so familiar. Songs you're dying to witness live; songs you'd sort of forgotten about and to which you're not exactly opposed to listening. Come say hello! Sing along! It's going to be a cozy campfire-like time. Bring your own skewers."
It's impossible for area Decemberists' fans to resist that type of warm, folksy invitation. Though I doubt you'd make it past the security at the Woman's Club with a set of your own skewers, so you might want to leave those at home.
