The Current to release all-local compilation

In celebration of its sold-out sixth anniversary birthday party at First Avenue this Friday, January 21, the Current will be releasing a CD of all-Minnesota acts, recorded live in the studio for The Local Show with host David Campbell. The CD will be given away at the show and will also be available for sale on the station's website, at local record stores, and from iTunes and Amazon.

The recordings were collected over the past year and proceeds will be split amongst the artists and the Current.

Program director Jim McGuinn explains:

None of these versions of these songs have been released--they were all cut live in the Current's studios. Included is a recording from Eyedea & Abilities' last live session with us, and also some unique collaborations like Dessa with Jeremy Messersmith.

If the project goes well, we hope to do a new comp every year.

Simply named Local Current, Vol. 1, the compilation contains 17 songs.

1. Jeremy Messersmith -- "Organ Donor"
2. Trampled by Turtles -- "Victory"
3. Peter Wolf Crier -- "Untitled 101"
4. Dessa -- "The Chaconne"
5. Romantica -- "How to Feel"
6. Roma di Luna -- "Miss You Too"
7. Eyedea & Abilities -- "This Story"
8. Red Pens -- "Hung Out"
9. Rogue Valley -- "Rockaway"
10. The Arms Akimbo -- "You Want To"
11. Communist Daughter -- "Not the Kid"
12. Charlie Parr -- "Where You Gonna Be (When the Good Lord Calls You Home)?"

14. Lazerbeak -- "Salt and Sea"
15. Spaghetti Western String Co. -- "Douglas Pending"
