The Brick moves Mastodon show to Myth, drops capacity
Minneapolis's Mastodon devotees will have to make the drive up to the Maplewood megaclub Myth after another sold-out Brick show shifts to a bigger room. The change for the May 7 concert, also featuring Opeth and Ghost, follows five other recent announcements of venue changes.
The concerts affected now include Incubus on May 9, Shinedown on May 15, and Marilyn Manson on May 18. Those three will now be at Myth, and the Shins on June 1 move to the Orpheum Theatre. Earlier this month, Fun. was relocated to Myth.
From the Brick:
Due to the overwhelming demand for ticket sales, in addition to the recently reduced capacity at The Brick, the Mastodon/Opeth concert originally scheduled has been relocated to Myth in Maplewood, MN. The concert will take place the same night, May 7, and all tickets from The Brick will be honored and valid for the performance at Myth. Please present your AXS issued concert ticket at the doors the night of the show for admittance.
That aforementioned "recently reduced" capacity is significant. Initially, the venue was touted as a 2,000-person venue, but according to a recent interview with Minnesota Daily, Brick GM Jeff Kehr says they're "now looking to decrease its number of sellable tickets to between 1,200 and 1,400, including the basement bar."
As many recall, the venue opened to significant criticism in March. The first show, featuring Jane's Addiction, pulled in a sold-out crowd that was distraught by the lack of sight lines, being trapped out in the rain beforehand, and bathroom access issues. Construction to correct these issues and caution to avoid overcrowding has been underway ever since.
