The best sci-fi music videos ever

Like a puppy

Jeremy Messersmith's recently released video for his song "Tatooine" is a fucking adorable little construction paper synopsis of the Star Wars OT (original trilogy, hello?) set to a sparse guitar and piano whisper of a song.

And, since we're total nerds, we're taking the occasion to retrospect on some of the music history's most interesting science fiction themed videos.

First things first, take a gander at Messersmith's new video, created by animator Eric Power. Adorbs!

Tupac, "California Love"
Might as well start off on the right foot here. Tupac's dystopic masterpiece is science fictioney enough; just because there aren't spaceships doesn't mean it wouldn't fit into a James Cameron movie. Purists.

Smashing Pumpkins, "Tonight Tonight"

Remember sitting in the den (if you had one), watching the MTV Video Music Awards in 1996? Through a sort of steampunked version of space travel Corgan, Iha, and Darcy work their way through some very nineties interpersonal problems - "the more you change the less you feel" doesn't really apply anymore. We don't change, and we don't feel.

Insane Clown Posse, "Miracles"

Everything is science fiction when you understand nothing.

Huey Lewis, "Power of Love"

Doc travels from the future to catch a Huey show - it was the one place he knew he wouldn't be. No paradox.

Ray Parker, Jr., "Ghostbusters"

You might say "how many eighties theme songs are you going to use dude?" It's not cheating, and two.

Michael and Janet Jackson, "Scream"

I need some Stress Caps after considering the familial implications of this video. "Stop pressuring me." This is how Jacksons work out the pains of being singslaves for their entire childhood. By singing.

LCD Soundsystem, "Home"

LCD Soundsystem's video for their song "Home" is an adorable exploration of what hipsters would do with a fully functioning robot; show him a good time (bikinis) while simultaneously exploiting him for his retro vibe.

Bjork, "All Is Full of Love"

Cunnigham's videos are consistently next-level and this one, for Bjork's "All Is Full of Love," is the ultimate. It doesn't get much more sci-fi than robots fucking.

Daft Punk, "Harder Better Faster Stronger"

Every Daft Punk video is the best sci-fi music video ever made, but those douchebags at EMI have disabled embedding on all of them, so click here to watch this most best of the best.
