SXSW 2011: Minnesota roll call
With South by Southwest less than a month away (the music portion kicks off on March 16), we thought it a good time to start compiling our list of Minnesotans making the haul down to Austin, Texas this year.
At first glance, it looks like there will be quite a few bands repping our great state -- last year, 17 bands were accepted into the festival to perform at official showcases, and this year a whopping 35 acts (including Doomtree together and as solo acts) will be performing at sanctioned events.
And as always, another large selection of bands will be heading down to perform in an unofficial capacity at the myriad day parties and shows that will overtake the city during the festival.
Minnesota bands playing official SXSW 2011 showcases:
The Blind Shake
Daughters of the Sun
Four Fists (P.O.S. and Astronautalis)
Har Mar Superstar
Lazerbeak & Paper Tiger
Retribution Gospel Choir
Sick of Sarah
Swimming With Dolphins
Tapes 'n Tapes
Trampled by Turtles
Minnesota bands playing unofficial SXSW showcases and day parties:
Caroline Smith & the Goodnight Sleeps
Mark McGee and Maggie Morrison (H.U.N.X.)
Me & My Arrow
Jake Dilley and the Color Pharmacy
The Rockford Mules
The Book of Right On
The American Scarcrows
Pictures of Then
Fortified Five (members of Poop Smear Mirror, formerly Knife World)
We know there are many more unofficial bands traveling down than are listed here, so we'll be updating this list as we get closer to the festival. Feel free to leave your additions in the comments.
