Summit Beer has long been the local brew of choice for many Twin Cities concertgoers over the years. And now, the good folks at Summit are set to put on one hell of a show of their own, as the Summit Backyard Bash is set to take place behind their brewery in St. Paul on Saturday, September 8. The event celebrates the 26th anniversary of the venerable St. Paul brewery with a day filled with music from a superb all-local music lineup, great beer and food options, along with celebrated Current DJ Mark Wheat serving as Master of Ceremonies for the day.
The rambunctious hip-hop collective Doomtree, fresh off of lighting up the Rock The Garden stage last month, will headline the Summit Backyard Bash, and will surely set the place off with their energetic beats and rhymes. Most of the MC's are busy doing solo shows throughout the summer, and other than their Lollapalooza performance on August 4, the Backyard Bash represents the only other full crew Doomtree show currently on their schedule, so don't miss out.
Emerging local trio Now, Now are also on the bill, and the young group are set to share tracks from their brilliant new record, Threads, with a sure to be enthusiastic outdoor festival audience. For those who haven't already fallen for the band's irresistible, stirring songs, this set should make you a fan once and for all, as Now, Now's indelible, edgy numbers should easily soar above St. Paul and win over everyone in the crowd.
The captivating art pop quartet Halloween, Alaska are also set to join in the festivities, along with the rousing indie folk of Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps, and the pulsing, electro-clash rock of Heartbeats. Hotpants DJ's will kick off the event at 11 a.m., and will also provide between set beats to keep the party going.
It all adds up to one fantastic local music festival, and when you add in the flavorful brews of Summit, as well as food options from Ngon Bistro, Bennet's Chop and Railhouse, Barrio, Pizza Luce, and Blue Plate, this has the makings for a truly enjoyable Saturday afternoon in St. Paul celebrating 26 wonderful years of Summit.
Tickets to the Summit Backyard Bash are currently on-sale here, and cost $14 in advance, and $20 the day of the festival (but the event will surely sell-out in advance, so get yours quick). 50% of all ticket sales goes directly to the Minnesota Music Coalition, a nonprofit service organization dedicated to supporting Minnesota's independent music community.
The Bash is a 21-and-up event, and is set to take place from 11:00-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8. The Backyard Bash will take place rain-or-shine (with a tent set up in case of inclement weather) behind the Summit Brewery located at 910 Montreal Circle in St. Paul, MN.
