Summer Music & Movies at the Walker lineup is here!
One of the coolest free events in Minneapolis returns again this summer, as the Walker Art Center presents their annual Summer Music & Movies series at Loring Park and the Walker's Open Field.
This summer's music and movies series is titled In Dreams, and will feature a selection of innovative films that correspond thematically with the Walker's Midnight Party exhibition, all paired with stellar bands who will certainly add to the enthralling atmosphere of the evening.
The series kicks off strongly on Monday, July 30, as the hotly-tipped local quartet Night Moves bring their soaring, vibrant pop stylings to Loring Park in advance of the Alfred Hitchcock classic, Spellbound. The following Monday, August 6, Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi and the Black Spirits will invigorate the crowd with their spirited, worldly rhythms before the Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis slapstick Artists And Models.
Monday, August 13, the sweet, soothing sounds of Rogue Valley will set
the mood right before the stunning, striking visuals of Jeunet &
Caro's, The City Of Lost Children. The Walker's Music &
Movies series winds down on August 20, as the captivating local trio
Brute Heart will gather in the Walker's Open Field to provide a fresh
score to the 1920 German Expressionist classic, The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari.
The Walker's Midnight Party exhibition will be free and open to the public from 6-9 p.m. on August 13 as well, with food and beverage options available for purchase at the Garden Grill by D'Amico.
So, not only do you get to see a series of four compelling, entertaining films outdoors on a summer night (in case of rain, the events will be held in the Walker Cinema), but you also get to see performances by four talented bands, all for free. And various DJ's from the Current will be playing music between the bands and the films as well.
The Walker's Summer Music & Movies series is consistently one of the best events in the warmer months in Minneapolis, and with yet another spectacular line-up of bands and films, this year is shaping up to be more of the same.
