Sue McLean helped shape and promote the Twin Cities music scene for nearly 40 years. And now, following Sue's sad passing in May after a courageous battle against cancer, the artists and the music community she treasured will have a chance to pay tribute to her and the numerous contributions she made to the local music scene with a tribute to Sue McLean at First Avenue on Saturday, November 23.
The event will include plenty of live music, in keeping with McLean's personal and professional motto, "Live music is good for your soul." The tribute will feature a performance from Eric Hutchinson, with more artists to be announced, as well as plenty of special guests, and friends and family of Sue McLean.
There will also be an online and live auction featuring special items from Sue's personal music memorabilia collection and more, with proceeds from the auction and ticket sales benefiting the Lilly McLean fund, set up to support Sue's daughter.
Sue McLean was the biggest independent female concert promoter in the world, and helped nurture and expand the Twin Cities' music scene for nearly four decades. She booked numerous memorable musical events at clubs and theaters throughout Minnesota, as well as for the Basilica Block Party, the O'Shaughnessy's Women of Substance Series, and of course the Music in the Zoo music series -- consistently one of the best places to see an outdoor show in the entire state -- a stage which now bears McLean's name in honor of her memory.
And while she is dearly missed, the impact and influence Sue has had over the local music scene will always be felt and never be forgotten.
The Tribute to Sue McLean will take place at First Avenue on Saturday, November 23. Doors are at 6 p.m., with the event starting at 7. There will be a VIP reception and soundcheck party from 4-6 p.m. featuring complimentary food and beverages, with the designated VIP area also featuring a private bar during the event. Tickets can be purchased online here, or in person at any First Avenue ticket outlet.
