Stnnnd? Figures. Stnnng.
In a decade, when historians of the local music scene are looking back in all fondness, deciding which of the numerous notable locals might eke into the pantheon of all-time greats, the list will shorten considerably.
Sure, there have been numerous flashes in numerous pans. The stand-outs that have seized some print and some big crowds.
But the list of bands with true staying power? It thins to a trickle. And tonight at the Turf Club, two of them--STNNNG and Blind Shake--double team a midweek set that should get every self respecting Gimme Noise reader off their asses.
It'll be like this, but in hi-def. Blind Shake at the Turf Club earlier this year.
Both bands have earned that sacred right of local heavyweights--the right to play just a couple times a year, and have the events be written up as major to-dos.
Of the two, Blind Shake have been rather more active in the last year or two, both on wax and on stage. They released their second collaboration with Michael Yonkers earlier this year, and have been seen in the cities' finer venues, both above and below ground.
STNNNG, on the other hand, has proven to be the Sly Stones of our local scene--the extraordinarily elusive, unpredictable performers who leave their capacity audiences stunned (pardon the pun) and dazed.
They're bringing Wereworm from Milwaukee. They're an X factor. Not on Myspace, no Google hits. But they've got the endorsements of two of the best locals you can think of.
21+. 9:00 P.M. $6.00. Turf Club, 1601 University Avenue, Saint Paul.
