Young people, with their gyrating gizmos and digitized doodads, wouldn't know orchestral music if it reached through their FM radios and slapped 'em upside the head. Hip to that is the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, which announced Tuesday the fourth season lineup of its innovative Liquid Music Series. A means of appealing to the non-benefactor crowd, the series places experimentally inclined popular artists in a classical context for wide-ranging, adventurous new performances.

The 2015-16 season of Liquid Music kicks off Oct. 14 at Aria in Minneapolis with Wye Oak, those Merge-signed indie rockers from Baltimore, performing the arty chamber songs of renown Brooklyn composer William Brittelle as part of an "exploration of secular spirituality in America." Other notable participants include marsupial-costumed DJ/producer/author Kid Koala presenting his live-action graphic novel at the Walker with indie-film vet K. K. Barrett and Afiara Quartet; legendary New York performance artist Laurie Anderson, wife of the late Lou Reed, at the Fitzgerald Theater; two nights with freak-folk provocateur Devendra Banhart and a host of friends at the Walker; and heady rapper/poet Saul Williams joining the Mivos Quartet at the James J. Hill Reference Library.
