See Gabe Douglas' naked face during Summer Shave Off for charity
With temperatures approaching 90º this week and the humidity on the rise, beardos across the Twin Cities must be thinking about possibly shaving their facial hair in order to cool off just a bit this summer. The 4onthefloor frontman Gabe Douglas and some of his area folk friends certainly are feeling the heat as well, and has decided to throw a star-studded Summer Shave Off party at the Triple Rock this Thursday night to benefit the Children's Hospitals of Minnesota and their benevolent Children's Cancer Fund.
Trampled By Turtles' Dave Simonett and Ryan Young, Brian DeRemer, Martin Devaney, and Gabe's 4onthefloor bandmate Chris Holm are all scheduled to perform, then immediately shave off their prodigious beards all in the name of charity and a good time.
100 percent of the proceeds go directly to the Children's Cancer Fund through the Children's Hospital of MN. Douglas got inspiration for this event by playing another benefit performance for children. "It started with a quick conversation with Bryan Atchison from Koo Koo Kanga Roo, who was getting some entertainment together for the St. Baldrick's event at Children's," he says. "I played a few songs and was immensely inspired by the event, and especially the KIDS. I made a note to myself as I left that I had to do something similar and as awe-inspiring." And thus, the Summer Shave Off party was born.
And the artists aren't the only ones who are welcome to shave off their beards. Audience members are welcome and encouraged (but not required) to participate. Says Douglas, "Yes, everyone is encouraged to join in the celebration. We welcome folks to come and shave their beards, their heads, or just come and listen to some great music and revel in helping others."
In addition to the follicular festivities, there will be plenty of great music on offer, with Simonett and Young from Trampled By Turtles returning to a small club following their massively successful slot at Rock The Garden, in addition to stellar songwriters Devaney and DeRemer also pledging to play as well as shave their beards in support of the great cause.

Douglas indeed has a great night planned, with plenty of musical surprises sure to take place. "The event will have a DJ playing tunes, artists will play a few songs, then get their beard or head shaved immediately after they play their songs. I'm not sure on collaborations, but I'm sure some things will fall into place as show gets nearer." This is the first official Summer Shave Off event, but Douglas hopes to make it a recurring event.
The Summer Shave Off party is going down on Thursday, June 21 at the Triple Rock Social Club. The event starts at 7 p.m., and tickets cost $10, all benefiting the Children's Cancer Fund. More information can be found on the event's Facebook page.
