In February, 89.3 the Current began broadcasting on its brand-new 90.9 FM frequency in Duluth. And unless it's an uncharacteristically cruel April Fool's prank, a bargain-priced launch party featuring big-name Minnesota acts Babes in Toyland and Astronautalis is set for April 1.
Going down at Duluth's super-cool venue/arts space Red Herring Lounge, the $5 show announced Monday will also feature Tiny Deaths, Shaunna Heckman, the Crunchy Bunch, a small army of public-radio personalities, and suds from killer North Shore brewery Bent Paddle.
Babes in Toyland, those grunge-punk greats from the '90s, are still celebrating their recent reunion tour. Indie-rap stud Astronautalis is gearing up for the May 13 release of Cut the Body Loose, his first full-length album in five years. It'll be a rare treat to see both acts in the intimate, 250-capacity Red Herring setting.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 16; click here for more info.
