Ruby Isle to debut cover of Guns N' Roses' "Appetite for Destruction" at SXSW

itemprop

We've known for a while now that Ruby Isle (featuring local Mark Mallman) has a thing for cover songs -- their latest project involved recording covers of popular indie bands like Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, and Animal Collective, and just last month Mallman worked in renditions of "Fool on the Hill" and "Baba O'Reilly" for his set at our Haiti benefit. Ruby Isle's latest project, however, is their most grandiose adaptation to date.

In a couple of weeks, the synth-pop trio will cover Guns N' Roses debut album, Appetite for Destruction, in its entirety at SXSW, with an LP to follow later in the year.

According to the press release, the band invited collaborators to help them add experimental elements to the project. "The extended sound palette includes a jazz quartet, French female vocals, live strings and a guest appearance from Har Mar Superstar on 'Sweet Child O' Mine.'" Add to that mental image Mallman channeling Axl Rose, and it seems like an irrisistable concept.

For those who will be in Austin for SXSW, here's the info on their two shows later this month:
