Rock icon Robert Plant will bring his Band of Joy, featuring Patty Griffin, to the State Theatre in Minneapolis on April 12. Though known for his righteous rock wailings in Led Zeppelin, Plant has toned it down of late, collaborating with Allison Krauss for a folk duo album in 2007 and releasing the Grammy-nominated, rootsy album Band of Joy last September.
[jump] Band of Joy contains not one but two covers of songs by Duluth trio Low, one of which, "Silver Rider," earned Plant a Grammy nod for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance. Though no openers have been announced for Plant's Minneapolis date, one has to wonder if he'll invite Low to perform with him at the show.
Tickets for the State Theatre gig go on sale this Saturday, January 22 at 11 a.m. and run $55-$95.
