Members of the Cabooze staff have confirmed that After Midnight Group manager Jason Aukes died on Thursday at his home. He was 36. Since his teenage years, Aukes has been involved in AMG, and worked his way up through the ranks.
Jason was born in Fridley in 1976, and grew up in Spring Lake Park, where he graduated from high school in 1995. After school, he started working in the hospitality industry right away "and he's been there forever," his father Duane Aukes says. "He always was a happy, go-lucky person, and always treated people with respect. Even as a child, he was always considerate of other people."
Messages circulated on social media on Thursday, and today the After Midnight Group's booker Kim King issued a statement, which we have reprinted below.
From the Cabooze:
It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we share with you that The After Midnight Group has lost a great friend, colleague, and more importantly a family member. Jason Aukes passed away yesterday, Mar. 14, 2013 at his home.Gimme Noise also spoke with Soda Rajsombath of the Partier Live, who has helped set up and promote many of the hip-hop shows hosted at the Cabooze.
With his infectious humor and contagious smile he had an overwhelming ability to make everyone feel welcome, including bands, staff, and customers. His presence as a manager, a talent buyer, a friend and overall great person will be missed by many.
"I've had the honor of working with Jason Aukes for over seven years," he writes. "The people at The Cabooze and AMG were influenced by Jason's kindness and they followed his lead as he treated everyone like family and not just another musician, employee or promoter. Jason played a huge part in the Twin Cities music scene by bringing great acts and helping local talent get started. He gave everyone a chance, brought joy to everyone around him and made bad days better with his big heart and infectious smile. We're all going to miss you Jason but you will always have a seat next to us at the show."
