Reznor clarifies the future of NIN
Well, it's been a bit of a goose chase of late, deciding exactly what Trent Reznor has planned for himself. He's been making and breaking promises ever since he announced his "retirement" several months ago, but at last, Reznor seems ready to make his intentions known.
Trent Reznor, moonlighting as Marc Almond in his pre- NIN band Exotic Birds.
Speaking to the Daily Inquirer in the Phillipines, Trent Reznor set down on record exactly what the future holds for Nine Inch Nails, the music project that has kept him on the tips of the tongues of two or three generations of the jilted and the alienated.
Turns out, Reznor doesn't want to be Gene Simmons. Which is, after seeing what became of that bloated, no-talent chauvinist after taking that big head first slide into the VH1 reality-show cess pool, a huge relief.
From the Daily Inquirer:
"What I specifically said or meant to convey is that NIN as a touring live band or live band that's on the road all the time is stopping. I've just reached the point ... where it has invaded every other aspect of my life. I have a number of projects that are not music-related which I have put on the back burner for a long time. I'd never want to be Gene Simmons, an old man who puts on makeup to entertain kids, like a clown going to work. In my paranoia, I fear that if I don't stop this, it could become that."
As they have been ever since his declared, ahem, "retirement," rumors about Reznor's other pursuits are swirling-- he's scoring production roles with Jane's Addiction, and Rolling Stone is even speculating about a reunion with his pre-NIN outfit Exotic Birds. Sly joke on Reznor or is there truth?
Who cares. It's an excuse to watch the Exotic Birds news bit, posted above-- a clip which is gravely damning to Reznor's current image as a muslcebound, don't-tread-on-me God of gothic electronica.
