Bernie Sanders supporters like to party. The Democratic presidential hopeful reports that partying “didn’t quite work” for him in his youth, but his fans are still throwing innumerable brew ha-has and hip shows in his honor.
Though not as fun as getting a drink with Sanders would be, the next best thing is being served by various Twin Cities rappers on February 17 with Beers for Bernie: A Caucus Pre-Party. Local hip-hop stars Prof, Sean Anonymous, Mike Mictlan, St. Paul Slim, and DJ Fundo will trade bar-spitting for bartending from 6 to 9 p.m at Lakes & Legends Brewing Company.
The fundraiser — which aims to rally support for Sanders ahead of Minnesota’s caucus on March 1 — will also feature live sets from DJ Mad Mardigan and DJ Name. In addition to providing caucus information and giveaways, the artists behind the event plan to donate all of the night's tips to the Sanders campaign. So, if you’re feeling the Bern, let Prof pour you a beer and elaborate on the candidate’s dense political ideology. RSVP via Facebook here.
With Beers for Bernie, the Minneapolis hip-hop scene joins local indie-rockers — who threw Berning Man at Triple Rock — and punks — who threw Bernifet Sanderfest at Memory Lanes — in supporting Sanders. Here’s hoping some venue starts Bernie Bangerz Nite soon.
