Prince's ex Mayte Garcia to star in VH1's Hollywood Exes
VH1's endless barrage of reality programming continues to feed a hungry public with a new series that you might swear already existed, Hollywood Exes. And for those starving for tidbits from Prince's era of public and label alienation in the '90s, they may come mainlined from his ex-wife Mayte Garcia.
The Purple One and the New Power Generation associate were lavishly married in 1996 in south Minneapolis and had split by 1998, but their working relationship spans back to the beginning of the decade. One of Garcia's more recent claims tso fame was choreographing Britney Spears' belly dancing in the "I'm a Slave 4 U" video.
Then again, Garcia went on to have a relationship with Motley Crue bad boy drummer Tommy Lee not long after her time with Prince, so it's a good bet that producers will have a handful of angles they'll try to "tease out" over the course of the 10-episode arc.
The rest of the semi-unstructured story lines come courtesy of women who were married to Eddie Murphy, Jose Canseco, Will Smith, and R. Kelly. The one-hour series will begin airing this summer.
Personal bias: This is supposedly a chance to "show the world that they are more than just a trophy wife with a pretty face." But won't that just add "and a VH1 reality show vet" to that?
Why this show should should be on Starz: Perhaps take Will Smith out of the equation, but the rest of the women's ex-husbands have allegedly taken part in some tawdry lifestyle choices that might be too hot to discuss on VH1.
No reason to get excited: The arguably more famous husbands are not expected to pull a Kelsey Grammer and make regular dramatic cameos.
