Prince will perform at SXSW, says Samsung
Prince performing "Bambi" on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
Earlier this week, reports of noted guitar-smasher Prince finally crossing over to a national audience via a South by Southwest showcase started making the rounds. Tastemakers all over the country are finally going to understand what we've been blabbing about all these years! Okay, we kid.
In the new-fangled, corporate environment of exclusive parties with bold-face headliners at SXSW -- one which our colleague Andrea Swensson decided to skip this year -- it still comes as a mild surprise that Prince is indeed taking his rig to Austin. And, fortunately, the good people at Mashable can report the news in a fashion that reflects the climate.
The show confirmed by Mashable will take place at Samsung's SXSW closing party, and we have taken it upon ourselves to update it with the Purple One's inclinations for substituting numerals for words.
"Having Prince in Austin at his 1st SXSW show will truly be a 1 night only experience that our Samsung Galaxy owners & friends will remember 4 years 2 come," Todd Pendleton, Samsung's chief marketing officer, told us.
But, much like the exclusive performances Prince put on at the Dakota recently, "Samsung will choose 250 TecTile Wall participants to attend the intimate show." That's it. Don't get your hopes up, iPhone owners! And we'd recommend you read the rest of the post if only to get a sense of how much of a presence the electronics purveyor will have at the week of music.
Couple this with reports of a 22-piece band the same night, and there appears to be at least one party that a whole lot of badge-holders can grumble about not being able to access.
The show(s) could be the first time Prince performs that smoky jam he composed for the MSNBC show NewsNation with Tamron Hall.
