It seems Prince was nearly set to play brand-new U.S. Bank Stadium on August 13 in Minneapolis.
That's what Vikings PR czar Lester Bagley told KFAN's morning zoo, The Power Trip Morning Show, on Tuesday. Here's a tweet from KFAN's Aj Mansour confirming as much:
Wow, just heard from Lester Bagley @prince was about to agree to show at US Bank Stadium before his passing.
Had that purple dream been realized, it would have made Prince the debut music act at U.S. Bank Stadium. His last local stadium show was at Target Center in 2007. The Minnesota-born music titan died April 21 at his Paisley Park compound in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
As it stands, two gigs are scheduled for our newest $1.1 billion concert venue: bro-country hero Luke Bryan (August 19) and metal gods Metallica (August 20).
Update (11:45 a.m.): The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority issued this statement Tuesday: “We can confirm that U.S. Bank Stadium had preliminary discussions with Prince’s people about a concert in the new stadium. The discussions only surrounded his interest in performing at the stadium. No other details were discussed.”
