Prince to release three CDs through Target

The Purple One has announced yet another twist in his unpredictable career: the three albums that he plans to release in 2009, LOtUSFLOW3R, MPLSoUND, and protege Bria Valente's debut, will be sold exclusively through Target. The Associated Press is reporting that the three-CD set will be offered for $11.98, and will be available March 29 in Target stores and through his website.

"Prince has long been renowned as one of the world's most original and iconic musical artists," said Target senior vice president of merchandising Mark Schindele in a totally boring, ready-for-print statement. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share his most recent work with our Target guests."

Over the past year, several major artists have formed similar exclusive partnerships with major retailers. The Eagles and AC/DC released their most recent album, Chinese Democracy, through Best Buy, and Bruce Springsteen enraged legions of fans by selling his newest "Best Of" collection through Wal-Mart. What do you think about this latest announcement from Prince? Is this a way of showing hometown pride by supporting a Minnesota-based corporation?
