Prince to join Zooey Deschanel on New Girl's Super Bowl episode
There's no longer any reason to be surprised by Prince news. Still, the revelation that the star of Purple Rain, Under the Cherry Moon, and Graffiti Bridge is returning to acting on Zooey Deschanel's Fox sitcom New Girl is a tad surprising. This is the Purple One's first sitcom appearance.
It also means that the 2007 Super Bowl Halftime Show performer gets another shot to perform the same day as the big game. The show will air on Sunday, February 2, as everyone dizzily looks for the remote control hidden somewhere amidst the chicken wing bones and overturned bowls of Cool Ranch Doritos.
According to Prince's official news clearinghouse of late, Dr. Funkenberry, the episode will go something like this:
The cast of "New Girl" will be graced by music royalty as Prince will appear on the show playing himself. The premise for the show is to be centered around his notorious star-studded house parties where he performs.
Funkenberry reports that Prince reached out to New Girl about this special cameo, so perhaps there will be some sort of tie-in to some new material. But no word on whether 3rdEyeGirl will be along for this potential pajama party. Since Zooey has made a name for herself as a musician in She & Him, there is always the potential for a duet.
Will the show be filmed at Paisley Park? Unlikely, but Gimme Noise wants to make sure Prince knows that Zooey in real life has a gluten-free diet, so any pancakes served in the wee hours should be prepared with that in mind.
