Prince named #2 greatest live act by Rolling Stone

There is no question that Prince is one of the best to ever strap on a guitar, to pick up a mic, to perch behind the keys, and so forth. Rolling Stone thinks so too.
In a new poll of industry folks and artists like Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell, Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, Metallica's Lars Ulrich, and Sara Quin of Tegan & Sara, the music mag came up with a list of the 50 Greatest Live Acts Right Now. It's not without its flaws, since the voting pool seemed to favor a lot of geezers that most people can't afford to see -- and some who are well past their best shows. But they did nail a few of the picks. We have to agree that the Purple One deserved to rank quite high, but who could be in the coveted number one spot?
Prince was beaten out by the Boss. Yes, Bruce Springsteen still is an impeccable live performer. If you're doing whatever you're doing half as well as he does into your 60s, congratulations!
Further down the list, Prince did beat out the Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire, Jay Z, Radiohead, among plenty of others.
Rationale for choosing the Minneapolis legend comes down to the way he's revitalized classic material like "Let's Go Crazy," and the enduring brilliance of "Purple Rain." Plus "his band 3rd Eye Girl is fire-hot." Judging by his string of shows at the Dakota and Myth this year, this legacy in the local sphere is intact.
