Prince honored with BET's 'Lifetime Achievement' award

Prince took the stage at last night's BET Awards to accept his award for "Lifetime Achievement," and gave a sincere and humble speech to the shrieking crowd. "I was pretty wild in my younger days," Prince said, grinning sheepishly. "You don't have to do what I did, you don't have to make any of the mistakes I made. The future is in your hands now, and the world is really yours. There is a change going on in America right now and everybody can feel it. We're going to be a beacon to the rest of the world."

The Purple One went on to personally thank a few of his favorite musicians, including Janelle Monae, Alicia Keys, Esperanza Spalding, and Patti LaBelle. Following Prince's speech, Keys and LaBelle paid tribute with covers of "Adore" and "Purple Rain" -- watch the speech and the tribute below.

Alicia Keys performing "Adore":

Patti LaBelle and Alicia Keys' rendition of "Purple Rain." LOL at 2:15 when Patti whips off her shoes and Prince picks one of them up and holds it over his head.
