Prince celebrates 52 years with "Hot Summer"

The Purple One is 52 years young today, and is letting us all celebrate with a new song! a new song. Given the timing and title one would assume this is Prince's volley for drop-top anthem of 2010, but "Hot Summer" comes off more as a Huey Lewis demo or the intro to an internal Valleyfair employee instructional video. Add it to the pile. Regardless (like he cares!): HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Song and more follow.

Prince, "Hot Summer"

I've "carefully" transcribed the lyrics below:

Oooooh hot summer
Hot summer eyayee
Ooh hot summer
Hot summer eyayee
Hot summer eyayee

Anybody close enough to hear
Knows what we been listening to all year
These are the days people told me to fear
But as long as I got your ear
I think it's gonna be...

Hot summer
Just wait and see
Hot summer
As long as you're my company

See the people gathered all around
Dancing to a futuristical sound
Some of them are teachers some are clowns
All these ever hugging about (?!)
Because it's gonna be...

Everybody's got a favorite friend
They got your back no matter what to the end
Ain't got no place for God or got a whole lot of Ben (?!)

Why is life always a mystery
It will be whatever it will be
It all depends on what you think you see
You I don't know, but me

I think it's gonna be...

Also of note, the estimable Richard Metzger plumbed Dr. Purp's Wikipedia page for some celebratory biographical nuggets. A couple:

  • Prince was named after his [pianist] father, whose stage name was Prince Rogers, and who performed with a jazz group called the Prince Rogers Trio. In a 1991 interview with A Current Affair, Prince's father said, "I named my son Prince because I wanted him to do everything I wanted to do."
  • After Tipper Gore heard her 12-year-old daughter Karenna listening to Prince's song "Darling Nikki", she founded the Parents Music Resource Center...[which] advocated the mandatory use of a warning label ("Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics") on the covers of records that have been judged to contain language or lyrical content unsuitable for minors.
  • Prince has reportedly needed double-hip-replacement surgery since 2005 but won't undergo the operation unless it is a bloodless surgery because Jehovah's Witnesses do not accept blood transfusions.
