Prince announces five-show run in NYC
A couple of weeks ago, we wrote about a mysterious press conference conducted by Prince in New York City in which he announced plans for a "series of events" called Welcome 2 America that would kick off on "a purple day in December" and include a range of collaborators.
This week, more details about this series of shows have been revealed.
The Purple One is planning five shows in December; two separate dates at Madison Square Garden and a three-night stay at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. According to a release, the shows will be "a different experience every night" and will include performances by Maceo Parker, Janelle Monae, the Twin Cities' own Mint Condition, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Sinbad, Lalah Hathaway, Sheila E., and Graham Central Station.
Tickets are priced at a mere $20.10.
Prince's publicist calls the events "tour dates," so we're hoping that indicates that the tour will spread to other parts of the country, including, we hope, a stop in his hometown.
As a fundraiser for the Harlem Children's Zone, Prince will be playing a custom built, solid gold Fender Stratocaster guitar, and will auction it off for the charity after his performances.
Here are the scheduled dates:
Dec. 14 East Rutherford, NJ Izod Center
Dec. 15 East Rutherford, NJ Izod Center
Dec. 17 East Rutherford, NJ Izod Center
Dec. 18 New York, NY Madison Square Garden
Dec. 29 New York, NY Madison Square Garden
