Osama bin Laden is dead! A musical roundup
Well, we don't have Osama bin Laden to kick around anymore, do we? Or at least, we don't have Osama bin Laden to have hover unseen and malevolent over our Threat Level Orange existences anymore, do we? Osama bin got gotten! I'm the first to make that joke.
As always, with big news comes big snafus, and there were a few goodies that sprang to digilife yesterday.
First, that damn Martin Luther King, Jr. quote...
I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy." - Martin Luther King, Jr
...is not a Martin Luther King, Jr. quote. It was written by a woman named Jessica Dovey, who coined the rather lovely affirmation in a Facebook post, where it was subsequently popularized by magician and bullshitter, Penn Jillette, as explained in this Salon piece. We all read too fast these days, wethinks.
Thank you, Based God!
During a "news" cast by Geraldo Rivera, someone shouted a thank you to Lil B, the Based God, for annihilating Osama bin Laden. Dude is like one Vans short of having his own church, and decent music.
Hot Rod wins!
This song was written really fast, and it shows! Who says "winning" any more any ways? Hot Rod was the first artist to get signed to 50 Cent's label, G-Note. Super curious to see what he does when he's got two days to make a song...
And finally, here are a couple snippets from Stereogum's comprehensive tweecap of musicians' responses to the news. You can view all twenty-seven of the captures over there.
Ok, two things: osama bin laden is dead? And tame impala is covering massive attack. Remember the innocent 1990s?
They could have at least hooked up a twit pic, dang
