Nomad World Pub plans 9th birthday celebration

The Nomad World Pub has made a fine addition to the string of stellar bars and clubs along Cedar Avenue on Minneapolis's West Bank. Countless local and national acts have rocked the Nomad's intimate stage over the years, with the venue consistently offering up-and-coming area acts a place where they can feel welcome honing their musical talents.

And this Saturday, March 15, the Nomad is celebrating their 9th Birthday in grand style, with a day filled with lively DJ's, $2 craft beer specials, loads of fun, and Shurling.

From 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., That Dude Trey will be DJ'ing the festivities, before the rare funk and old soul spun by the Hotpants DJ's takes over the dancefloor later in the night.

Throughout the day, there will also be fantastic drink specials going on, with $2 getting you a cold pint of finely crafted beer -- featuring Goose Island, Sierra Nevada, Laguinitas, and Summit. If that doesn't get you in the proper mood to celebrate, nothing will.

In addition to the great tunes and cheap beer specials, the Nomad is also touting their new game they call Shurling. Hotly contested games of Shurling will be taking place out on their frozen-over bocce ball area -- think a hybrid of shuffle-board and curling combined. Brews, tunes, and good old-fashioned competition in a sport no one has had time to master equals good times, indeed.

For those who want to make an entire day of it, the Nomad is one of the finest places in the city to take in English Premier League action, and Saturday features plenty of big matches like Fulham v. Newcastle, Everton v. Cardiff City, and Aston Villa v. Chelsea. Coverage starts at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

So, come down to the Nomad on Saturday and celebrate the birthday of the West Bank's most unruly 9-year-old, but be careful not to add your mugshot to the collage below.
