As excitement continues to build regarding the opening of the Green Line Light Rail linking Minneapolis and St. Paul, the Current and Target Field have just given music and public transportation lovers one more reason to rejoice. The public radio station has announced plans for a star-studded day of free music at the Union Depot in Lowertown St. Paul to celebrate the opening of the Green Line, headlined by a performance from Doomtree.
Over at the Target Field Station, they have some music-filled fun planned of their own, highlighted by a performance from New Primitives.
In addition to the set from the Doomtree collective at the Current Stage, the 4onthefloor will also perform earlier at the Union Depot, along with Southside Desire, Koo Koo Kanga Roo, and Southwire. Music will begin at 11 a.m., and will be just a part of the grand festivities scheduled to commemorate the launching of the Green Line.
Beginning at 8:45 that morning, elected officials will be gathering around the trains on Sibley and Fourth Street, with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled at the Union Depot north lawn at 9 a.m. Gov. Mark Dayton, Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, Representatives Keith Ellison and Betty McCollum, and Mayors Chris Coleman and Betsy Hodges will all be speaking during the celebratory event.
