With the weather in the area slowing taking a turn for the better, local music fans are looking for any and all opportunities to see outdoor performances. And, for the past ten years now, one of the best options for free outdoor music in the Twin Cities has been the Music In Mears series in Lowertown St. Paul, which consistently pairs terrific Minnesota-based bands and musicians with a tranquil urban setting, as well as wonderful food and drink options from businesses in the area.
And this year, for their 10th Anniversary, the Music In Mears organizers are going all out with their most ambitious schedule yet, with a stellar array of diverse local bands set to perform over 12 Thursday nights this summer.
Music In Mears began in 2004 as the humble brainchild of Brian Horst and Kyle Johnson, and has blossomed from just an initial offering of four shows in the month of September, to a summer long festival of music, food, and fun that has only grown better as the years have gone by.
From 6-9 p.m. on every Thursday throughout the summer (except July 4), Music In Mears brings together people who work and live in St. Paul, as well as fans from all over the state of Minnesota, who gather in the picturesque city landscape of St. Paul's Mears Park to hear great music, sample terrific food from Lowertown businesses, and drink their fair share of Summit beer.
This year, the Music In Mears folks are also looking to branch out and incorporate bringing movies into the last six weeks of the series, with a specific focus on local films and filmmakers. While those plans are still being finalized, that added creative aspect gives us all one more reason to head out to Mears Park throughout the summer months. Check out the Music In Mears Facebook page for any updates to the schedule and additional announcements as the summer wears on, as well as any cancellations due to inclement weather.
