Monotonix at the Triple Rock tonight
There's a band somewhere in there.
We're beginning to think that Monotonix, the Israeli rock three-piece that is part garage rock and part high-flying stage antics, is trying to avoid legal trouble back in Israel.
What else could explain their absolutely tireless touring regimen over the last couple years? This band plays 200 shows a year. And has for the last 2 years. Even Gene Simmons would raise a perfunctory eyebrow.
Tonight, they make a glorious mess of the Triple Rock. If you've never seen them before, tonight will be an outstanding time to see them run amok.
We've said it before, in previews of their numerous Twin cities shows over the last few years. But watch the video embedded above. Go ahead. The whole way through. We'll wait. We'll even hum "Spanish Flea" to ourselves.
Now, imagine these three as active members of the Israeli military. Chills the blood, no? Who would wage war against men like these? Who would stand against them?
Not us. And if the sell-out crowds they hold in willing submission during their acrobatic sets are any indication, no one would dare rise against Monotonix, whose shows, no matter how raucous and forcibly interactive they become, never shed their innate sense of good will and no-rules fun.
18+. 8:00 P.M. $12.00. With Turbo Fruits and Gay Witch Abortion. Triple Rock Social Club, 629 Cedar Avenue, Minneapolis; 612.333.7699.
