With Election Day just over a month away, many us are probably growing tired of the endless stream of campaign commercials and relentless sloganeering ringing out from most media outlets. But one of the definite advantages of any election year are the special Benefit Concerts which bring together talented bands and artists in support of a cause they believe in.
And the Triple Rock Social Club, Modern Radio Records, and Cake In 15 have teamed up to put together quite a stellar two-night lineup as part of their MN Musicians Vote No! on Marriage Inequality and Voter Restriction Benefit at the Triple Rock on October 26-27. Proceeds from both shows will benefit MN United For All Families and TakeAction MN, two benevolent local organizations who have been at the forefront of the efforts to defeat these intolerant, discriminatory amendments.
The lineup over the course of the two nights is truly a great one, with local punk luminaries Dillinger Four headlining Friday night's festivities, while Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner will close things down with a solo set on Saturday night.
Performances from Har Mar Superstar, Mayda, and Magic Castles, along with DJ sets from Poliça's Channy and Drew, round out the strong bill on Friday. While solo sets from both Charlie Parr and the Honeydog's Adam Levy, along with performances from Flavor Crystals and Vikings punter Chris Kluwe's band, Tripping Icarus, complete the music lineup on Saturday, with comedians Tommy Ryman and Maggie Faris providing between set entertainment all evening long.
Both nights will be hosted by Ian Rans from Drinking with Ian, and will also feature the beats of DJ Shannon Blowtorch and friends.
Also, Everyone in attendance will also receive a MN Musicians Vote No digital compilation card featuring songs from bunch of locals bands and musicians who proudly stand in support of voting no on both amendments, including Free Energy, Tapes n' Tapes, Doomtree, Dark Dark Dark, Gabriel Douglas of 4 on the Floor, The Blind Shake, Brute Heart, STNNNG, Mother of Fire, Birthday Suits and more.
Tickets for each night are $15, and will be available soon through the Triple Rock website and affiliated ticket outlets. Both shows are 18+ events, and showtime will be at 7:00 p.m. each evening. Updated information can be found at the event's Facebook page.
