The Joke Joint website warns aimless comedy seekers to beware of bringing parents, bosses or timid friends to Rob Delaney's weekend-long stand at the club this week. And it's a real warning, not like "May Contain Nuts" or "Terrorist Threat Elevated." But those with the cajones (or huevos -- that's you, ladies!) to enjoy some full-contact comedy will be well-rewarded.
Delaney's act is blue, sure, but it's also inventive and often surreal. With his strapping physique, square jaw, and smooth voice, he seems at first like he might be a game show host. Two minutes into his set, though, and he seems more like a game show host who just took some bad acid. His even-keel, controlled delivery makes the bizarre turns in his routine seem all the more inexplicable. It's almost hard to keep up, but it's fun trying.
Catch Delaney at The Joke Joint (2300 American Blvd. in the Ramada Inn) Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m., or at the late shows Friday at 10:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10 p.m. Here's a clip of him doing some unofficial PR work for Warner Brothers, which they certainly must appreciate.
