Minnesota State Fair reveals free 2016 music acts

Would you pay to see G. Love & Special Sauce? How about Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters? How much would you pay? $800? $15? Well, it doesn't matter, because you don't have to!

As part of the annual livestock-and-fried-weird-shit extravaganza that is the Minnesota State Fair, those two bands — as well as dozens of other acts — will be giving away the goods for free. While you'll still have to pay for your seat at Grandstand shows from Don Henley, Dixie Chicks, Bonnie Raitt, and Demi Lovato plus Nick Jonas, the 102 events on the poster below won't cost you an extra dime.

Highlights include California funk band War, country innovator Marty Stuart, and roots entrepreneur Pokey LaFarge. Among the local acts: Reina del Cid, Sonny Knight & the Lakers, Sawtooth Brothers, and Grammy-winning kiddie faves the Okee Dokee Brothers. There are also some bands we've never heard of with really great names like We Banjo 3, Sarah Morris and the Sometimes Guys, and Looney Lutherans.

Of course, not all the free entertainment is music. There are also talent contests, karaoke, a canine stunt show, a skate park, a magic show, and an extreme trampoline contest. Any and all shows should be on-brand ridiculous and as fun as free can get you.

All performances are gratis but, you know, with the caveat of having to pay to get into the fair. Click here for dates and stage info. The Minnesota State Fair runs from August 25 through Labor Day, September 5.
