Minneapolis Aquatennial schedule announced: Blues Traveler still running around
This Thursday afternoon Minneapolis Aquatennial announced its schedule for this summer's epic, 9–day celebration, now in its 69th year.
It’s hard to believe that it was only 150 years ago that the fine people of Minneapolis voted themselves into existence. Time does fly, but not without a big party, which kicks off Friday, July 18 at The Labor Neighborhood Block Party, a free concert hosted at Nicollet Mall between 3rd and 4th Streets. The headlining act will be Blues Traveler, whose runaway hit, "Run–Around" was inescapable for the entire year of 1995. Their 12th and latest album, Cover Yourself, is an acoustic reworking of popular songs from their long and prolific career. The Fabulous Thunderbirds ("Tuff Enuff," "Wrap It Up"), and local rocker Tim Mahoney will round out the bill for the evening.
Other events taking place between July 18th to the 27th include the torchlight parade down Hennepin Ave., sailboat competitions, competitive sandcastle building, and special activities and memorabilia at the Bakken Museum and the Hennepin History Museum.
