Mark Mallman releases Cure cover for New Year's Eve show
What happens when you combine two man-sized rats, a pair of dance-rap nerds, the singer from a psych-rock band, a hip indie rock dude, local piano man Mark Mallman, and the Cure? Well, it turns out you get a fun cover of "Friday I'm in Love," complete with a wintry little music video.
Mallman recruited Bryan Atchison and Neil Olstad of Koo Koo Kanga Roo, Mike Schwandt of White Light Riot, and Carin Barno of First Communion Afterparty to join in on the cover in anticipation of his gig on New Year's Eve, which has become an annual tradition of mayhem and spectacle. Last year, Mallman hoisted himself up over the audience with a pulley system and flew a kite over the crowd with a leaf blower, while the year before featured the world's first piano solo played with the wheel of a motorized scooter; it's anyone's guess what stunts Mallman will have up his sleeve for this year's party.
Mark Mallman plays with White Light Riot, First Communion Afterparty, and Koo Koo Kanga Roo on New Year's Eve, Thursday, December 31. 18+. $12. 8 p.m. doors.
