Mark Mallman preps for his annual New Year's Eve bash

"I want to be the Lorie Line of New Year's Eve."

The year was 2006, and the time was 11:59 pm. Mark Mallman stood on stage in front of a packed Varsity Theater and uttered those words, helping the audience count down the final moments of the year and usher in 2007. Since that epic night, which climaxed with Mallman driving a tire of a motor scooter over his keyboard (so that he, naturally, could be the first to ever do so), Mallman has made a tradition out of returning to the Varsity each New Year's Eve, with each party growing more extravagant than the last.

[jump] This year, Mallman is collaborating with local duo Red Pens, folk-rock quartet Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps, and dance party starters Koo Koo Kangaroo for his Varsity Theater bash. The bands are hard at work nailing down the final details for their party, and they sent over this video from their promo photo shoot to get us in the mood.

The photo, taken by Nate Reiman at the MNfashion studios in Northeast Minneapolis, turned out to be quite the badass shot. Peep a larger version of the finished product here:

Tickets for Mallman's New Year's Eve show are available via the Varsity's site.
