Maria Isa pays homage to Grass Roots on new track 'Secured'

Maria Isa has been slowly leaking tracks off her new mixtape, Sip It Vol. 1 (you may remember when she called out Michele Bachmann on her track "Esto Suena"), and today's track starts with a riff that will sound familiar to fans of classic rock from the late '60s. "Secured" starts out with the opening riff of the Grass Roots' "Let's Live for Today," then turns the beat backwards for a slinky groove that repeats through the rest of the song.

An under-appreciated act of the late '60s, the Grass Roots have become active again recently, touring and issuing a greatest hits CD. Lead singer and songwriter Rob Grill passed away just last month, but the rest of the band has a show booked with members of the Buckinghams, the Turtles with Flo & Eddie, the Association, and Mark Lindsay at the Minnesota State Fair on August 29.
