Mike Andrew is running with the right crowd. His first release is a solo effort in name only, featuring backup from his First Prize Killers bandmates, plus members of Walker Kong, the Ashtray Hearts, and Work of Saws. Don't expect any wild musical departures. The group covers safe and familiar territory, lending just a touch of cheatin' heart to a whole lot of rubber soul. Andrew's nasal vocals, which might have been grating if pushed harder, carry the gentle tunes well. Even in a song called "Angry Mob," the pitchfork-wielding marauders apologize and go home in the first line. Maybe it was Andrew's posse that scared them off, but it's more likely that the sound lulled them into contentment and inspired an afternoon of lounging around the house.
