As days of the week go, Wednesday isn't just the innocent whipping boy that Monday is. It's the cruel matron of the midweek, that loveless bastard one must fight through to get to Thursday and Friday's welcoming arms. There's rarely any shows, and drinking on a Wednesday just feels kinda obligatory.
Leave it to Leisure Birds, your knights in shining armor. Tonight, the Picked To Click'ers are bringing one hell of a local bill to the Turf Club in an attempt to turn Wednesday around.
Also on the bill is the ever elusive Arctic Universe. His live appearances have declined to a trickle in the last year, which means that seeing the solo vocalist, who, with an icy singing voice and backing tracks that belie the frigid loneliness of a digital tundra, is most aptly named. Arctic Universe is a showman of supreme leisure, and not a little remoteness, often striding languidly across the bar tables, and the bar itself, while crooning into his wireless mic.
Kicking the night off is a DJ set by Visions of Christ, featuring the visionary noise artist Bryce Beverlin II on the 1s and 2s. All in all, it's the perfect way to make the worst day of the week into something you can remember fondly, once the night's whiskey shots wear off somewhere around noon tomorrow.
21+. 9:00 P.M. $5.00. Turf Club, 1601 University Avenue, Saint Paul.
