Justin Vernon's Volcano Choir announce new album, Repave

After making their stunning U.S. live debut with a memorable show at the Cedar Cultural Center back in March of 2011, Volcano Choir (a collaboration between Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and Wisconsin experimental rock outfit Collections of Colonies of Bees) are keeping their fruitful musical partnership going with a forthcoming new album, Repave, due out on September 3 on Jagjaguwar.
In addition to the upcoming new music, the group has also shared an album trailer (directed, shot, and edited by the talented local filmmaker Dan Huiting, a longtime Bon Iver collaborator), as well as news of a tour which will bring them to First Avenue on October 18 after stops in Madison and Milwaukee at the end of September.
The teaser video features some behind-the-scenes looks into the recording of Repave shot at Vernon's April Base recording studio in Eau Claire, mixed in with playful shots of the group goofing around in the snow and the studio. There's also a brief glimpse of a piece by Gregory Euclide (who created the striking album art for the Grammy winning, Bon Iver, Bon Iver) that Vernon has hanging on his wall.
But it's the soaring potency of the snippet of the new song itself which is the real star of this album trailer, with Vernon's robust, unfiltered vocals churning over a driving, insistent arrangement that surely bodes well for the band's forthcoming new record.
