Helms Alee, Buildings, The Nina And The Pinta, Oblivion at Big V's Friday
Out of nowhere Big V's pops up on our radar this week with a show on Friday featuring Seattle's Helms Alee, an outfit somewhere amidst postpunk, sludge, and power ballad. Emerging from the Pacific Northwest's utterly amazing and for many taste-defining hardcore scene from the late nineties which spewed forth Botch, These Arms Are Snakes, Blood Brothers, and Helms Alee's old band Harkonen (sort of a more caustic version of their current band).
Also playing is Buildings (the Cities' brutal-in-baseball-cap), The Nina And The Pinta, and Oblivion, whose Myspace is worth a perusal if only to read their pretty endearing handwritten artist statement. "Gee, we hope that doesn't sound pompous."
