Gov. Dayton declares Paul McCartney Day in Minnesota
Leading up to Saturday evening's sold-out Paul McCartney show at Target Field, Minnesota governor Mark Dayton has dedicated the day to the Beatles legend. Sir Paul's last performance in the area was back in 2005, and he nearly hit Target Field in 2011. Tonight's performance will mark the third Minnesota Twins baseball stadium he has played after 1993's Metrodome visit and the 1965 Beatles stop at Metropolitan Stadium.
The proclamation is the second music-related toast of the week after St. Paul mayor honored St. Paul & the Broken Bones with their own day at their packed Amsterdam Bar & Hall show on Thursday. The full text of Dayton's proclamation is below.
WHEREAS: Sir Paul McCartney made history as a member of the Beatles - one of the most successful and critically acclaimed music groups in history; and
WHEREAS: Sir Paul McCartney is credited with writing or co-writing 32 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, and is widely recognized as being one of the world's top songwriters of the 20th and 21st centuries; and
