God Damn Doo Wop Band tonight at the Triple Rock
Ah, a nice convergence of rare phenomenon tonight at the T-Rock. First, it's a prime excuse to slip out of the Juliette Lewis show. Second, it's a phenomenal Wednesday show. Third, free bacon (that's right-- stick around long enough, and you'll get more grilled hog than your heart can handle).
And fourth, the God Damn Doo Wop Band is our favorite locals who hardly ever play out anymore.
There's no sense denying this music's appeal. Sorry, but we just won't buy your folded-arms-and-a-sneer to music this immediately endearing and catchy. As vocalists, Kat Naden, Annie Holoien, and Saumer Jackson are anything but slouches. That said, there's something far more engaging about their occasional sour harmony or vocal hiccup than there is in vocal perfection.
The God Damn Doo Wop Band is masterful music with all the seams proudly showing-- a patch handsewn to a denim vest, made all the more eye-catching by its slight crookedness. They're easy on the ears to be sure, but anyone seeking the pomp and circumstance of a junior prom is attending for all the wrong reasons.
In any case, your opportunities to see GDDWB out and about are growing slimmer by the minute. Don't miss out on your chance to slow dance with that charming gal in the Black Label jacket.
