FCAP at SXSW. OMG.
Look-- you should probably drop acid before going to this show. No, seriously. Go find that burn out friend of yours, the one who's always inviting you over to play Rez on his Dreamcast, swipe a couple tabs of some low grade LSD, and drop them on your way to the Entry tonight.
It's not that the show won't hold up without it, but more that it would be perfectly in line with the themes of the music you'll be hearing. Take Daughters of the Sun for example. This is music so authentically rooted in the shadowed, unexamined lobes of the brain you can almost smell it and taste it on an extra-sensory level.
Similarly, First Communion Afterparty, who bring 60s psychadelia to the fore with an ease and authenticity you might not expect from musicians who were hanging out in the ovaries when the acid revolution hit, are a band that positively begs the passing of a water pipe (full of tobacco, naturally). Driving, full of mellow menace, they're a band that was meant to be heard lying down in a grasy meadow.
Gimme Noise doesn't really advocate drug use (stay in school, kids, and use your jimmy hats!). We ourselves are teetotal-- such vices would only weaken our ability to pass along the very finest and freshest in crap culture to you, dear readers. But where we suffer, you may flourish, dear readers. It's never a bad idea to take a journey of the mind.
