Feb. 20, 2009: Q&A with Nadastrom & the day's news
Tonight the Moongoons will be hosting the latest edition of their Honeymoon series at First Avenue's VIP Rooom. In addition to DJ Bach the Washington DC duo Nadastrom will be playing the event. To get things warmed up, Gimme News caught up with the duo for a few brief questions on what we can expect.
Gimme News: What are people going to see at the upcoming Nadastrom show that they might not at a solo set by either of you?
Nadastrom: As Nadastrom we like to focus more on building up our sets from deep to crazy to who knows where. whether we have all night or just 90 minutes, we like to offer more than just a "wham bam thank you 'mam" approach. We wanna give songs and mixes a chance to really breathe rather than just quick in and out mixing. It's kind of like sex.
GN: Late last year you guys put out the Pussy EP. Why Pussy? Have you put any thought into releasing a full-length release this year?
N: Pussy is a reference to the main sample of the track. It ain't Soul II Soul either. Do some homework kiddies! It's not that hard really. And yeah we are perverted scum so why not call it Pussy? No plans on releasing a full-length, although it sounds tempting. Right now we are just focusing on our follow up EP on Dubsided and releasing about a dozen remixes for Strictly Rhythm, I HEART COMIX, Sweat It Out, Plant Music, Universal, Epic, Fool's Gold, etc. this spring/summer.
GN: Matt said in an interview last year that you guys "have a pretty strong hip hop influence." Are you bringing anything different your VIP Room set considering the theme for the night is "Rap Video"? What are you expecting from the night?
N: If you're coming to see us and expecting anything remotely rap or rap videos, we apologize in advance. We are so not rap. Although we are heavily influenced by hip-hop, seeing as it's the culture that raised us. Will we be droppin' any rap joints and trying to look hip-hop? NO. Will we be looping dance music to making people want to party? YES.
