Familia Skateboard Shop relocates to Minneapolis

Minneapolis isn't quite ripe with skateboard-centered shops. When you've got your sights set on finding the perfect new board or a killer pair of sneakers for the kick-push, one is often forced to browse alongside a group of whiny 13-year-olds in a suburban mall. Thank god Familia is coming to town.

Until this weekend, Familia has been located in St. Paul. Its new digs are on a prime stretch of Uptown property; 2833 Hennepin Ave, between "Bobby Bead" and "Glass Land", across from the YWCA. The shop carries over 20 board brands, a wall of flashy kicks, apparel and all the goods a skater could need. Paying homage to their name, Familia's arms are wide open to the skating community, with plenty of love and knowhow to ride on.

Familia is owned and operated by professional skateboarder Stever Nesser, a current member of the incredible Birdhouse Skateboards' team (other members include founder Tony Hawk and Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White). Nesser is a Minneapolis native who inhabits the city to this day, showing up in the shop and chatting up customers.

Familia's skate biz prides itself on its dedication to the specific sport of skating. The staff knows what's up and can point you in the right direction. Although the new store's layout has yet to be revealed, the place is gaurenteed to be stocked with something rad for your spring fever. Step inside this skate heaven and you'll never set foot in the zit filled Zumiez again.

Check out the store's 'Grand Re-Opening' this Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., featuring a special in-store Todd Bratrud art show and hang out with the Familia crew at The Red Stag later that night, with tracks from DJs Millions Billions and Tendercakes.
