Minneapolis dance-rock trio Estate are about to get coastal. Though they don't plan on slowing down their output, a going-away party for founding member Josh Johnson planned for tomorrow night at the Red Stag had us wondering whether there were changes in the works for the long-running band, so we asked Johnson to clue us in on what's happening to his group.
The party tomorrow night (which will also feature a DJ set by Estate) will be one of Johnson's last gigs in town before he makes the move to NYC.
[jump] "We're not treating this move as a major Estate change," Johnson says. "We're still going to be making tunes on the regs, only this will be a little more Postal Service-style. We do a lot of that already. We'll still be rocking new tunes and remixes for our UK label Mullet Records and have a few more TV placements in the works.
Johnson says that his Estate bandmates Dan Kramer and Jessie Lesmeister will continue to hold down their monthly Fancy Night Times gig at the Red Stag, and that they also hope to book some gigs in NYC.
For now, though, the last chances to see Estate in their full configuration are at tomorrow night's DJ night at the Red Stag (21+/Free/10 p.m.) and next Saturday, September 24 at the Franconia Scupture Park, where they will perform with Communist Daughter. The group has also just released a new DJ/VJ mix Slam Dance 9, which you can watch and download at the links below.
